Hear, Hear, the GTUG Battle ended:

We have reviewed all GTUG Battle submissions during the last week and our jury identified nine teams who won! Yes, nine (instead of only six)!

We were very impressed by all extensions and thus added another category to the list: Innovation. This new category covers very technologically/graphically/visually innovative extensions. The other two categories are Page Actions and Browser Actions.

Review GTUG Battle Hackathon

So, der Chrome Extension Hackathon ist vorbei, Zeit für ein Recap des Events.

Es war, zu mindestens nach meinem Empfinden, ein sehr entspanntes Event und ich bin Google für die Verpflegung und Evan und Jochen für ihre Vorträge sehr dankbar. Auch wenn ich selber leider nicht zum Hacken sondern nur zum Ideengeben gekommen bin, habe ich doch das große Potential erkennen können das in Chrome Extensions steckt. Vor allem das unglaublich unkomplizierte Handling, gepaart mit der Mächtigkeitvon HTML5/JavaScript, machen einfach Spass.

Generell kann ich sagen, ich hatte einfach mal nur Spass an dem Event. Vielleicht gerade weil mal tagsüber unterwegs waren und ich nicht erst spät Abends heimgekommen bin. (War ich dann ja wegen des Ignites trotzdem)

Ganz sicher ist: Der kreative Output solcher Hackathons ist um einiges größer als der traditioneller TechTalks, wobei solche natürlich auch ihre Berechtigungals Lernevents haben. Die Gespräche sind Problembezogener, Code entstehtund keiner guckt gelangweilt auf seinen Laptop.Ich bin jedenfalls sehr gespannt was die Teams im Rahmen des GTUG Battles an Extensions abliefern werden und freue mich auf die nächsten Events.

Germany GTUG Battle Beta 2010

What is the GTUG battle beta?

The GTUG battle beta will be a series of Google Chrome events including a Google Chrome extensions hackathon combined with a competition for the best developed Google Chrome extension.

Why should your GTUG join the battle?
Because its worth it!

Participating teams must be min 2 and max 5 people. Each team must belong to one existing German GTUG. The winning GTUG group as well as the winning team will receive terrific prizes.

On top of that, maybe you will build a great extension that everyone in the whole wide world will be able to use!

Competition closes 14th March

Dates for the following events are confirmed:

• Hamburg - Tuesday, February 23, at the Google Office, ABC-Str. 19, Hamburg
• Dusseldorf - Thursday, February 25, at the Google Office - tbc
• Munich - Monday, March 1, 3pm to 8:30pm, at the Google Office, Dienerstrasse 12

• Nuremberg
• Karlsruhe & Stuttgart (Neckar/Alb) (possibly joined)
• Berlin
• Frankfurt
• Münster & Ostwestfahlen (possibly joined)

If possible Google will support you with Google speakers at the event. They will hold a Google Chrome introduction and lead the hackathon so that you get all your questions answered.

If we can't send somebody over, we will email you tutorials and other information.

You don't have to be Member of a GTUG, if you're not registered right now, search for your nearest GTUG and sign up. There will be prices for the winning team but also for the winning GTUG.
